As the then reigning soca monarch queen Shelly G was advertised as being on the entertainment card line up to appear at the Carib Mash band launch several weeks ago at the Starlite Drive-in but she did not show up to perform. No explanation was given and enquiries to a Carib source revealed that that some one in her management served an ultimatum that it was either Jory is taken off the performers list or she would not be performing. Not allowing for intimidation the request was denied and Jory performed while Shelly G was a no show. Then as the 2010 soca monarch competition got started, tongues started wagging that she would not be representing her crown for reasons unknown. But Carib officials said that they were not sure even up to the day before. They, like her fans, were optimistic that she would have performed but then show host and comedian, Chow Pow, delivered the news that instead of ten contestants there would only be nine. Shelly G did not perform for her own reasons the Entertainer informed and some were openly disappointed. “Like she arrive or what?” one asked while some began chattering that “she can’t be serious.” Lo and behold, her name was advertised as one of the acts at the NCN mash media jump up and sure enough Shelly G was there. She performed several songs; lashed out at Jory for being disrespectful and made it clear in song that she has one baby “but me kitty still tight.” Then she delved into an apology for being absent stating that she got an opportunity in Trinidad to further her career and she took it. She also made it clear that fans can look out for the fruits of that opportunity shortly. Several weeks ago this publication(KN) emailed a list of questions to the artistes concerning her participation in the soca monarch and there was no response. Calls to her phone also went unanswered. All we got to say now to Shelly G is, “Please be more straightforward in dealing with the public as they made you with their support and contrary to what some might have you believe they can break you so…let go and let it flow". |
